Partners HealthCare and GeneInsight Earn the 2013 Editors’ Choice Award for Technology Innovation in the Life Sciences

Apr 10, 2013

Bio-IT World announced that it has selected the Partners HealthCare Center for Personalized Genetic Medicine (PCPGM) GeneInsight Suite®, as the winner of the Editors’ Choice Award. GeneInsight, an IT platform that streamlines the analysis, interpretation, and reporting of complex genetic test results, was presented the award at the Best Practice Awards ceremony following the opening keynote at the 2013 Bio-IT World Conference & Expo.

“We are delighted to give the 2013 Bio-IT World Editors’ Choice Award to Partners Healthcare and the GeneInsight team,” said Kevin Davies, editor of Bio-IT World.

Established in 2003, Bio-IT World’s Best Practices Awards Program recognizes organizations for their outstanding innovations and excellence in the use of technologies, practices, and novel business strategies that will advance drug discovery, development, biomedical research, and clinical trials.

“The field of clinical genomics is seeing some truly exciting advances, but to progress from anecdotal to mainstream medicine will require major advances on the health-IT front to spread accurate, up-to-the-minute data to physicians in a readily accessible form,” continued Davies. “We’ve admired the work of Sandy Aronson, Heidi Rehm and their colleagues at PCPGM for several years, and while we recognize that GeneInsight is not a new offering, the network has made major strides in the past year, attracting an impressive group of early partners across the country.”

GeneInsight entered into a strategic alliance with Illumina last year, collaborating on a combined offering that integrates the functionality of Illumina’s MiSeq® sequencing system and Partners GeneInsight Suite®. Earlier this year, the two organizations announced the founding members of the GeneInsight-Illumina Network, a diverse and distinguished group of laboratories committed to exploring opportunities to share knowledge with the goal of improving patient care.

Added Davies, “We suspect that GeneInsight will prove to be one of truly groundbreaking platforms that will ensure the field of clinical genomic medicine realizes its immense potential.”
